#1 Clutch master cylinder clevis pin removal

Is it possible to extract the clevis pin securing the clutch master cylinder to the clutch pedal with the brake pedal in place? The brake pedal seems to be in the way, even when depressed.

Guidance much appreciated.

From the date of your car I'm assuming you have an early pedal box with the Kelsey Hayes booster.
You have to have both the clutch pedal and the brake pedal in situ before you can mount the cylinders on the pedal box so you should be able to get it out again.
Sometimes unbolting the clutch master can allow you to withdraw it a bit and give you some more room.
To be honest I normally remove the pedal box from the car to work on it. It's worth the extra effort and saves time and knuckle skin in the long run.

I did it on my 63 car, the clevis came out with pedal box in place.Instead of using a split pin I used an R clip much easier.

It can be done but is not easy...lots of jiggling and fiddling....and the same again to get it back in again...

Spent too many hours trying to persuade the clevis pin past the back of the brake pedal and only succeded in getting it jammed up against the back of the pedal shaft.

Tried filing a flat onto one side of the clevis pin head and still there isn't enough clearance. My options seem to be 1. Keep on filing material off until I succeed.
2. Hacksawing the head off to make it possible to extract the clevis pin, then modifying a new pin until it has enough clearance to be fitted properly without forcing.

Can't believe that such butchery should be necessary for as service job.

Phil -
Can you post a photo showing the interference?
It is fiddly especially working upside down, but I replaced mine in situ with no major difficulty that I can recall. Sounds like you are having exceptional problems.
When the clevis is in finally in I agree with the previous suggestion to use an R pin to make it even easier in the future.

Easy solution found after having a break and coming at the problem fresh.

1. Connect Easybleed hose and bottle to nearside front brake bleed nipple and release bleed nipple 1/4 turn.
2. Push brake pedal all the way to the bulkhead and wedge in position with a length of timber between brake pedal and steering column bracket.
3. Use longnose pliers to tease out clevis pin until it drops into your palm.
4. Curse the genuine Jaguar workshop manual.
5. Hold pin aloft and gloat.

I hope this saves someone else a whole lot of frustration
