#1 Meet up at Summer Events

Post by Barry » Wed Aug 02, 2017 6:53 am

A great opportunity for members of the Forum to meet up and make themselves known is to attend some summer events. Two come to mind; the Hampton Court Concours d'Elegance on the 2nd September with two notable cars on display, the ex Salvadori Lightweight E, and the D type 1 OKV. The other being the Goodwood Revival a week later. I shall be at Hampton Court with my red ex-Eagle 6.0 litre V12 on the 2nd joining other E's representing the E-type Club. Also, a week later join other E-types in the Classic Car car park at the Goodwood Revival. I will be there on the Sunday, so come and say hello!

I'll be at Goodwood on Sept 9th. For the last two years JLR have had priority parking in the Classic Car car park, closest to the entrance. I'm hoping they do again this year.

BTW, nice car you have. Are those 16 inch wheels?

Now I come to think on it, I'm sure I've seen your car at Poole Quay one Friday. I noticed the wheels then.

Next summer event in my calendar is this Sunday's Goodwood Breakfast Club. Has to be applied for and an entry ticket printed to get onto the circuit. All others are shoved into a public carpark. Last year was stacked, and the weather was dry. Free to enter or to just turn up.

Does this priority parking need to be booked, or just turn up, I have got tickets for the Saturday, but i've not booked any parking.

John,

I'd booked to go to this weekend's breakfast club at Goodwood, my car is linked to my account so I had assumed that fact that I said I was attending meant I could park my car in the circuit. Unfortunately that is not the case and your tickets only allow access on foot. 'On theme' car need to be pre-registered.

I called them earlier today to see if I could bring my car onto the circuit and they said not. I think it has been a victim of its own success (presumably as it is free). It was an open event with a club like feel but is now limited to 15,000 people. I suspect they no longer turn a blind eye if you haven't registered your vehicle.

So I'm off to the JEC jaguar day at Arundel Castle instead:

Sorry - ignore the above .... you're talking about the Revival

John, you need to register your car with Goodwood as an historic vehicle, and they send you a pass for the historic car park. That is next to where it all happens. There is normally a special Jag section within the historic car park (which you can't miss) and you don't need any special pass for that. If you haven't registered your cat yet, it's not a problem. You can do it online or ring them up.

Yes it will be good to see some of you guys at these events! To answer questions on my car. Yes, the wheels are 16x7" with 235/60 tyres. It is quite unique having one of the very last factory 6.0 litre engines complete fuel injection, AJ6 throttle bodies and their Torque Plus kit, special sport exhaust to develop about 390bhp. Suspension and brakes sorted etc etc. The restoration was done by M & C Wilkinson about 10 years ago, but has only done 2000 miles since. Eagle have sold the car twice, and I bought it in April have done a deal with my '62 Series 1 FHC. The car is just fabulous and is so responsive, with the chassis upgraded to cope with the power. An article appearing in the E type Club magazine soon.

Just so there is no confusion, two events at Goodwood this Sunday one is the Goodwood Road Racing Club (GRRC) annual vehicle display and house open day at Goodwood House. It is for GRRC members and you apply to have your car on display, which then means a free lunch in the house for you plus partner. Members not displaying park near the house. The other is the Breakafast Club already discussed. A bit late now to register for that one, but you can be a spectator. You can register for any of these Sunday events if you have a suitable car. I'm going to the 5th Nov "V" day. It certainly helps if you are a GRRC member. The membership of that is closed, but you can join the waiting list and become a Fellow of the GRRC for, I think, £38. Goodwood certainly have made a success of the whole thing, and know how to take your money, but there is a fantastic mystique about the place, and everyone flocks there.

Thanks for the advise chaps, will try to get classic car parking permit for the revival today, cannot apply on line as it says that all places are booked, however i didn't own the E-type when I booked the tickets, so maybe they will be sympathetic...and I bet it cost's me

John, I don't think it should be a problem getting the pass for the revival. And it shouldn't cost you. Just ring them. They like their historic parking with lots of cars because they see it as part of the revival.

Planning on going to both the breakfast club and GRRC event tomorrow. Have a circuit pass for the former. It's a nice morning out normally.

We did breakfast, but decided to go to Arundel Castle for the JEC 'park near the castle' thing.
There were loads of Es at Goodwood, some could be described as interesting.....

Image

The card in its window describes it as a 1962 Series 1 with a 4.2 overbored 'HC' engine.

Hmmmmm! The card also says it has a rear wash/wipe. I didn't want to get any closer to check. As I said, interesting.

I noticed several primrose Es, not sure which one was yours, Stephanie.

At Arundel I parked quite near Chris Vine. He clearly judges me to be an untrustworthy type, removing his steering wheel before I turned up!

After having a quick word with Chris before he left, I spoke to a chap who had a 2+2 in one of those colours that BL thought was a good idea at the time, but in fact was never a good idea. If you have ever had to change a nappy on a child with a severe bowel infection...... Yup, that was the colour. Apparently it was the original paint, which BL called saffron. I'm sure no one will ever want to steal it.

''Twas a good day out, and we got this picture and a free copy of MotorSport.

Next day out will be the JEC event at the Weald and Dowland Open Air Museum. No booking required, just turn up. And after that we are back at Goodwood for the Revival.
