I've managed to source some original 3.8 OTS seats for my 1964 S1 which I shall shortly have restored. A couple of quick questions:
- Were all seat frames grey throughout 3.8 production? Mine are black (with very old paint). The seats have had some previous leather repairs so I know they have been worked on but am not sure if this would have extended to the frames. I want to ensure (when the seats are restored) that they go back to the specification in force at that time hence wanting to get the colour right.
- There are three small screws which protrude through the base (see photos below). Does anyone know what these are for?
Many thanks!

Phil, can't help you with your questions, but have you read through the various comments made about early seats? Leg room, head room etc.
Just to say you might wish to check on all that before your expense of refurbishment.

Fortunately, at 5'8 these are not so much of an issue for me. My car currently has S1.5 seats in which also need refurbishing (the back's are torn from occasional contact with the different hood frame the 3.8 has). As such, I've decided to go with originality and to take the car back to specification rather than pay to restore something that should not be in the car.

Phil -
I have never seen a black seat but that is from a limited sample so in your situation I would check with one of the trimmers like BAS who deal with the seats regularly.

That's really interesting to note. Looking at the construction of the 3.8 OTS seats I've purchased, they're from just after the conversion to the steeper rake and the use of longer seat runners in 1962. It would be very interesting to see whether other seats had black frames from this period.

The seat frames in my '64 were grey. No evidence of black.

I think the three holes possibly are to take the hooks supporting a rubber diaphragm

My 62 FHC (888007) seat frames are grey.
I stripped them and had BAS restore and retrim them.
