Memory Lane Magazines

I stumbled across a wodge of old Jaguar magazines tonight. A five inch high pile of 'Jaguar' magazine and a five inch high pile of 'Jaguar Driver' magazine. They range from 1988 to 1992.

A Jaguar one was really interesting, souvenir issue of E-Type:

That would be great....however be careful as the magazine text and images will be copyright and the unauthorized copying or distribution is a violation of copyright and may result in a rather strident posting from the copyright owner...I would seek permission from the original publisher first.

I knew Billy Cotton had one of the original RHD FHC's & now I know for sure (No 31), still cannot find any pictures of him with it tho !

I could take photos of the Contents page from each magazine to see what was of interest to members, then pdf those.
But the copyright position did cross my mind. I am no expert and would need to seek advice.

Just look at the bit in the magazine that lists the publisher....often on the inside front cover...it will almost certainly include a copyright notice. Even it it does not copyright still exists and usually lasts for 70 years after the author dies....so the magazine will be copyright and the people who wrote the articles will have copyright unless they have passed it to the magazine. Any unauthorized copying WILL violate copyright. Write to the magazine publisher and ask for permission. They may say no. They may say yes or they may grant permission to reproduce parts....being a magazine they may not own copyright for the whole publication and will have reproduced articles with permission of the original author(s)....Jaguar-Landrover for example. Copyright is a bit of a mine field but you can easily infringe it and get into serious hot water....and it applies equally to physical reproduction and electronic reproduction and distribution on the web. You can sometimes reproduce in part provided you acknowledge the original author...as is common in scientific journals where people cite previous research but in general...if in doubt....don't...

Ok, I'm starting to get a bit concerned about the copyright thing.
Should I delete the post to be on the safe side? (if I knew how or had permission).

Tricky...the copyright holder would have to see the post...get upset...decide to chase....given the age of the magazine and the niche nature of the forum and the fact that only bits have been snapped obviously just to illustrate I would say there is little likelihood of an issue...but that is just my take....might not be others opinion. If it were me I would read the thread and then either ignore or even post permission.

I was very General above...copyright is a minefield and I am no expert...I worked with patents for years and they are different and less long-lasting too. However as a general point people posting here on the wonderful forum should be mindful of copyright when posting material on here. A snap of an odd page is unlikely to get people vexed but once you scan to a high quality pdf in full with the specific stated intention of making available then you are definitely crossing the copyright line. Something for the forum moderators to provide some guidance on maybe?

Incidentally of course...your own postings are technically copyright and you own it...unless you decide to waive it or the forum rules state that anyone joining has to agree that any postings remain copyright free and in the public domain...another conundrum for the moderator i hereby state that any postings i add are in the public domain and anyone is free to copy my postings in full or in part
