Cracked rear Hub

Hi all....whats your thoughts.....scrap or repairable.......hairline crack..look close runs horizontal across the center...can be see both sides....side reinforcers are not cracked......could it be welded...thanks... Steve

I would not risk that. I mean what happens if at 200++ km/h the wheel breaks of ?

And, useable replacements are plentiful, as (from what I know) those from the XJ6 are the same.

It is important to only swap them in pairs, because they do differ between series.

Hi Carsten...its actually a replacement for a previous one that was cracked, only noticed it a i was cleaning..
..have another being delivered.....but wanted some thoughts on repair incase the next one is also cracked, the one below would be impossible to repair as its where the bearing fits

I agree with Andrew. This is a safety critical part, and I would not want to encounter the rear wheel steering which would occur if it were to break whilst in motion

I have another arriving today........logic told me to bin it....but im no expert in aluminium welding...difficult to understand how it could have cracked across the face without cracking the side reinforcers....Steve

I'd have binned it, and I'm the patron saint of "I can fix that with a bit of effort."

Like Carsten wrote, the downside to your day, body, suspension, and underwear/seat leather are just too significant in comparison to the relatively low cost of replacing them.

Some of the castings have parting or shrinkage lines from manufacture, but they tend to be common enough, and in the same place.
