Post by Ikebaddog » Fri Mar 09, 2018 8:47 am

Drove the '71 series 3 in today to work, first time this year, car spent the winter outside under a car cover, started well, no smell of dampness...looking good, Speedo has fixed itself!!!!! it no longer bounces all over the place ( how strange ) but the discs feel a bit "warped " there is a degree of brake judder.... but apart from that....nothing to report

Could be flats on the tyres from standing rather than warped discs. Run the car for a few hundred miles and see how it feels.

If it has been standing outside for a while it may be that the discs have a bit of rust where the pads have been. Tricky to see on the rears but relatively easy on the front. So long as it is just light rusting then, as said, a few miles on the clock and it will vanish. If the discs are badly pitted then it won't vanish. Front discs are easy to change....rears are not. Never leave the hand brake on either when stored outside....pop into first or second gear instead. Spring here too but overcast and still salty roads....more rain needed to wash the stuff away...

Spring may have sprung for you, but here in the Wild West of Wiltshire winter is still coating the roads. I’ll not be driving again until the last vestiges of salt have been swept away. See you around mid April at the earliest.
