Insurance
#101 Re: Insurance
I was insured through footman james with jaguar enthusiast club "discount" between 2001 and 2018. The premiums started at under 300 GBP for a valuation of 40k in 2001 and rose to over 400GBP in 2018 always with around 200GBP excess which was fair enough as the car club valuation had climbed to 150k. Mileage was always unlimited as I was always told there was no extra to pay, even though I told them I was only covering 2000 miles at most per annum. I also had not made any claims on any insurance in that time. However in 2018 it went up to nearly 500GBP with a £800 excess which on questioning I was told it was due to the 150k valuation. But this excess was on any claim not just a total loss claim. They also added some wording that I had to verify that the "car was complete" I have never had this clause before on any insurance before and I said, I could not sign to say it was. If they wanted they could always find a small trim part or bracket that was missing and my insurance would be void. They said it did not mean this and it was major parts like engine and wheels! I pointed out it did not state this and that the car was MOTed and a 150k club valuation so was not missing major parts, but they would not remove the clause. Worth checking for this if you have insurance with FJ. So I took my business to Peter Best who were much more competitive with a reasonable excess.

Malcolm, did you have any difficulty getting an agreed value for the E? I’ve tried that with my XF insurer and they said they couldn’t do agreed value for an E Type, so separate insurers.

I have an Admiral multi quote policy and they wouldn’t quote me to add a 1962 E Type FHC to the policy as their data base doesn’t recognise the car!

The regional location of your vehicle plays a massive role in the final price you pay for coverage as a young adult. For instance London based drivers might face annual costs exceeding eighteen hundred pounds while those in the South West often pay closer to one thousand pounds for the same protection. These pricing disparities reflect local theft rates and the frequency of claims in densely populated urban centers versus rural settings. Detailed information regarding these regional pricing trends is available at СarInsurancePlus Securing your car in a locked garage overnight remains one of the most effective ways to lower your costs.

#113 Re: Insurance
As far as we are concerned, here in France, I discovered that my insurance applies a deflating rate of -3% / year. I find it shocking for collector cars, as they are famous for being well taken care of by their owners, aren't they. Not talking about the "natural" value increase of our E's (well, maybe not at the moment
)
Is it the same in the UK? Maybe I should swap my agent

Maybe they make you a discount each year for remaining with them, still normally inflating the value insured

#115 Re: Insurance
I'm still with RH Insurance, have been since I bought my E. Cover has been steadily increasing but last year jumped by £100+ so I complained because Martin Lewis advised that insurance costs had decreased and I got an alternative quote which was similar to my previous premium. Result of my complaint was a reduction which took the premium below the alternative quote, so I stayed with RH and Equity Red Star, a LLoyds syndicate.
Extraordinary alternative quote I got from one of the brokers advertised in the mag was from Equity Red Star again, but this one . . . . . £11k! Yes £11k. I did not respond
