I would think by cutting the crossmember as shown and then replacing it by inverting the metal , plus adding the two pcs of metal to seal the mouse holes would make the crossmember stronger
Is’nt that what triangulation and boxing out sections is about?

I just received a UPS notice that the fly wheel ,clutch and pressure plate is on the way!!!!!!!!
Hopefully we can start buttoning this all up by next week :)
Yes I agree, and off the record a major restorer says to play it safe its the only way they go so there is no worry of contact or binding.
GETTING EXCITING!

The British Preperation H ! Has arrived!!!!
Supposedly Guy Broad wants me to use this on the splines and pilot bearing!!!
Ok
If it squeals or the body bends it’s all their fault😀😀😀
All I need is the clutch and we are ready to go

What say you?
The output flange is longer so you can just slide new prop bolts.
The Supplier added nylons but I feel
They are too shallow?
I’m going to use mine , the longer nut with more lock.
I doubt the higher nut will bind
It never has before.

I'd be fitting new bolts with new nylocks, not reused old ones. And I'd keep the nylons for activities inside the car.

My bad
I’m not using the old nut
I meant the old nut size compared to what came in the mail
The old one is deeper look close😀
Thanks Chris

Agreed. The deeper nut must be better.

Hi

I agree that those supplied nuts look too shallow. Not including the nylon insert, how many threads are there? You want at least 5 although any more than that is not particularly beneficial. Are the nuts & bolts the correct 'T' grade?

You can always check for clearance around the nuts when you get it all bolted up.

Regards
Stuart

I agree , Supplied by SNG, I usually go grade 8 but might be overkill.
Im going back to the hardware store today for the longer nut.

Hopefully guys the clutch assembly will be here tomorrow .

Grade 8 is definitely not overkill. Grade 5 is lower strength than British T rating, grade 8 is slightly higher so stick with that - they're doing an extremely important job.

Remember to torque them up properly and don't lubricate them beforehand. I can't remember the size, are they 5/16" UNF or 3/8" UNF?

Regards
Stuart

I can’t help the pictures out of order
So we wheel and chase all the threads of old lock tite
The blue standard and metric board were from the hardware store
I asked if I could buy one and they called the dealer!
Great for chasing bolts and knowing what you got!!!!
Then chased the bolts to the crank it’s all very clean and smooth.
A couple of dots of high heat red when assembling and all should be good
The torque is still 67 pounds
We shall see😀
