If you look at both the dipsticks in the above link, you will see that the "washer" on the dipstick is shaped to hold the felt washer. The S2 dipstick that I have is not dished at all, it is flat.

Does not matter, the felt washer just pushes on and stays put. The earlier dipstick has a concave holder into which the washer presses but I guess the bean counters at BL decided they could do it cheaper! Interestingly that washer holder means very few people realise the felt should be there and overlook the fact it is missing.

Could I get confirmation that my dipstick is bent starting from the thin part and that as such it cannot indicate the right oil level?
Shoud it fo straight from the washer down?

And is it safe to try gently strengthening it, any risk to break it?

Bend the stick straight. It will not break. It should drop fully down into place through the block and sump baffle holes by gravity alone, then clip it with the bracket.

That is definitely bent and sliding over the top of the baffle plate and not down the hole in the baffle plate. as Peter states when straight it should just flop through the baffle plate hole without any pressure under its own weight.

With reference to the dipstick washers, I'm not seeing them in catalogues from SC or SNGB when X referencing S1 cars. However, the rubber one shows against earlier XK models within SC Parts catalogue 🤔 Very confusing....and I don't have either!

On closer inspection it seems I do indeed have the remnants of a felt washer nicely compressed within the mushroom/dome part. 🤔 Looks similar to distributor shaft felt? Does any one have the dimensions of the felt washer for me to make one?

Thanks Steve.
As I have plenty of similar felt I thought Id make my own.
I fear that the washer will be cheaper than SNGB postage costs!
