#1 HELP Desparatley Needed!

Post by ClassicJagMan » Fri Feb 03, 2017 1:55 pm

Hi everyone,
I desperately need help in anyone recommending a local-ish garage to me that can fit new rear brake calipers & recondition the handbrake etc in my 1969 S2 2+2. Yes, I know it involves removing the IRS etc. I really would like the work done, if possible, asap. Would anyone know what would be a reasonable charge for this type of work?
I live in Beckenham, Kent.
Please help...........
Kind regards,
Andy

Can't recommend anyone local to you I am afraid but I had my IRS removed a year ago last summer as the diff oil seals had failed. At the same time they refurbished the calipers and hand brake. Cost me £1800. While the IRS is off it is well worth asking them to take a close look at the input and output shaft oil seals on the diff as it would be folly not to replace if there is any sign of weeping. The seals are a few quid but you have to get the rear end dismantled to get to them and as you are having yours off anyway do get them checked out.

Andy : I would have thought it was worth having a word with the Aston Martin people hidden away in King's Hall Road, Beckenham . They might or might not do it, but might recommend someone appropriate

Many thanks for all your help and suggestions everyone.
Christopher Storey, I will try the Aston Martin place off Kings Hall Road in Beckenham.

I am now looking for suggestions anywhere in the South East as I am going to have to get the car transported on a low-loader from the Guildford/Woking area of Surrey.
Any other suggestions anyone please?

Kind regards,

Andy

Andy

Haven't spoken to him about the work, but I can recommend Alex of ADL Motors of Chertsey as an honest and reliable mechanic - he isn't a Jaguar-man particularly but is a mechanic rather than a fitter. He removed and refitted the engine on my Series 1, and has replaced springs on my 240. He also has his own transporter if that is any help. KT16 8EA is the postcode so it shouldn't be too far from Guikldford - or you!

If you e-mail Alex@smofweybridge.com that will reach him. (The business has changed its name from SM of Weybridge - but so many people know the e-mail that he hasn't changed it)

Give Melvin a call at 'Just Historic cars'. its a bit of a distance from Beckenham but he does know his jags. By all means mention I gave the recommendation. However I am in no way associated with the company.
Best regards

It sounds like the car is very near WinSpeed just north of Guildford.
They are E-type and XK specialists
