Radiator fitting issues...4.2 series One

Just fitting my new alloy radiator to the 4.2 and having an issue with the brackets underneath that fix the shroud to the rear and the blanking plate under the front. As far as I can see the brackets go on the lower radiator studs and sit on the rubber mount. When tight however the bracket holes conveniently ( not!) are directly lined up with the support brace that the whole set up sits on. Has anyone else encountered this annoying issue? It means its almost impossible to get a bolt or screw in the bracket . Obviously the brackets are reproduction but seem to be accurate. I guess the rubber mountings may be too thick?

Hi Andrew,

Can't quite remember if I had the same issue, but why don't you just put the bolts in the brackets first, held in with nuts? You can then fit the brackets, remove the nuts and job done.

ha great minds think alike! I had thought of that as a work around but already got the radiator in. Its not the end of the world to take it out again, and I think I will have to do that. thanks for the input !

Yes I had this on the cheap and cheerful Ebay radiator I have in my 3.8 roadster.
I got them cut off and rewelded in the correct position.
Be bloody careful with the threads too as they will strip easily.
The radiator works really well btw.

Note also that the correct rubber bushes are thinner than the ones for the fuel tank. The usuals often supply the wrong ones...

thanks Guys. I reckon it must be the rubber bushes being too thick which holds the brackets just a bit too high to get the screws in. Think I will fit them as suggested before dropping the radiator in. Ah well !
