#1 Rear Ride Height

Post by mgcjag » Thu Jun 01, 2017 8:45 am

Hi All....just bringing up this old subject...there is lots already here on the forum....on E types with standard rear shocks there is no way to adjust the rear ride height....although spacers can be fitted on top of the springs if needed......The Jaguar service manual i have has no measurements for rear height (the S3 does)...in all the discussions we have had here no one has ever come up with a Jaguar measurement......however this week on the Jag Lovers forum height was discussed and a diagram posted.....

Do you have this diagram in your manual and does it have any more details on rear ride height, is it for all models ir just 3.8...... thanks.. Steve

I have checked the following and none of them have that drawing:

1. Original 1961 St Nicholas Press - '"E" Type Grand Touring Models Service Manual - Green cover two brass screws to contain pages
2. E/123/8 - 3.8 "E" Type Grand Touring Models - 4 ring green binder
3. E/123/8 - E123B/3 - E156/1 - copy from the Forum KB
4. The Brooklands reprint

Note: E/123/X where X is a number from 1 to 8 although only E/123/1 and /2 were printed during 3.8 production.

Unfortunately the drawing number does not tell us much as it is in the range of numbers used in the Manual. Fig 22 in all the above manuals is the drawing of the setting link tool.

Why would anyone think that the ride height for a s1 or s2 should be any different from that of the s3?

kind regards
Marek

Different section tyres? 669mm vs 675mm. The S3 manual suggests a different measuring point:

Didn't the US spec cars have a slightly lower FRONT suspension set up, to get the headlamps to comply with their requirements. For the same reason, Morris Minors had to add that raised bit to the front wings to accomodate the California lighting requirements, much to Alec Issisonis' disgust, as the original lights next to the grille were too low.

Hi All...seams like it was a bit of a red herring.....the diagram i posted above was from an early Jaguar service manual pre the availability of the rear camber setting link.....the measurements given are achived by adding weight to the car..when you have the correct A/B difference you then check camber angle..all info can be seen on Jag lovers if intetested https://forums.jag-lovers.com/t/rear-ri ... /353871/52
