I think a look on SNG's website provides the answer. The narrower panel with 4 slots is the standard fill in panel needed on 2+2 cars only. The wider panel is a standard dash fascia which when fitted in a FHC or OTS would have all the slots used as per the one in your picture - perhaps yours is from another car originally?
In 2+2 use, the wider panel only uses the outer slots, the inner ones being covered over by the dash panel trim cover.
