#1 New member in Devon

Post by DevonS1 » Fri Jan 03, 2020 10:57 am

Hello and Happy New Year to all members!
I have recently become the custodian of a 1963 S1 FHC 3.8 which was the pride and joy of my late brother.
The car is in good condition but has been left garaged for 10 years and needs recommissioning and eventually restoring either by myself or a new owner.
My priority is to see her back on the road and to honour my brother who suffered with a prolonged illness.
Looking forward to engaging with the forum to learn and seek advice on the journey.
Ed

Ed, welcome to the forum, the best place for advice and help so please do ask questions and don't worry if they sound silly, we've all been there and learned along the way.

When you're ready post a few photos. Getting her back on the road will need new tyres, oil, coolant, probably hoses as well, brake and clutch fluids replaced, etc. The list can go on. Get an MOT done, not necessary for a car of this age but well worth doing. Watch out for the effects of tin-worm which could mean expensive work to replace panels. Can you do that yourself?
Do you have a reliable person or garage owner sympathetic to E Types near you? Make sure they understand the E Type not just old cars. If not ask here and you'll get suggestions or even someone from the forum who could drop by and have a look over the car.

Good luck with your work and keep us posted.

Hi Ed,
Welcome to the forum. I’ve just finished a 3 year restoration of a 63 fhc so I’ll be glad, along with the rest of the splendid chaps here, to help in any way I can.

Thanks for the warm welcome. It’s reassuring to know that the journey is one made by many before and I’m really grateful for the generous offers of advice.

I’m based in Plymouth but the project car is stored in Surrey for now. I’ll try and upload photos tonight.
