#1 Valve stem seals

Post by mystery type » Sun Feb 16, 2020 11:44 pm

Hi I’m looking for 6 valve stem oil seals for my 1967 4.2.
Been looking on Barrett’s and I can’t see any listed. :scratchheadyellow:
Found others on google but doesn’t state for my car.
As I Don’t want to purchase wrong items can anybody point me in the right direction.
Many thanks.

AFAIK the S1 E type valve guides weren't machined for the modern type of seal like yours. The VRS kits include some sort of O ring arrangement which I've never used. I'm not sure if this was true of the later cars.

On our head rebuilds we always get the guides machined to fit a modern seal like yours.

Presumably your head has had the guides machined with a groove. All you need do is take a sample of your seal to a supplier and get them to match it. For completeness you could measure the groove diameter and stem diameter too. From memory ours are Ford V8 ones.

Thanks for all your reply’s. My guides do seem to have the grooves on them.
Thanks for the part number BoB. I removed my filter of “series 1” and this time the item was displayed. :bouncyyellow:

I am not 100 percent sure that those are the same as the ones you have removed. I think yours are modern aftermarket ones with the 2 spring seals.

My car HAD stem seals, but after a head rebuild, came back without. I was told "don't need them thumping up and down if you do the head properly"
What are the views on this? And can seals be fitted after the event easily, or is it a major job?
Thanks!
Malcolm
I only fit in a 2+2, so got one!
