Wire wheel splines

Hi,
I may have some play in one of my rear wheel splines.
Slight movement when rear jacked up with hand-brake applied.
Can changing wheels round help?
Is the problem usually in the wheel or the hub?
How can this be prevented? 45 year old car, with curly hubs.

Previous owner left a few parts around.
Having trouble tying the Lucas part number to the distributor.
Can anyone tell me if the correct parts for the 22D distributor are.....

Fitted 6 NGK BP5ES this afternoon.
Off to Classic Car Day at Powderham Castle tomorrow.

More likely the hub is worn, splines are to long and fine to allow play.

You need to clean the grease off the splines and wheel hubs and check the axle splines for wear. They should be upright and sharp. If any are angled or chafed it means the wheel was not on tight enough and they will need replacement. If you don't it will also destroy the wheel hubs so multiplying your costs.
