#1 Manual Trans Hydraulic Throwout Bearing Setup

Post by HuffUSJag » Thu Feb 11, 2021 6:06 pm

Hi Folks,

If anybody has access to the back of any 6 cyl E-Type bellhousing with the guts installed (i.e…an assembled engine before the trans is bolted up) can they put a straight edge across the flat face at the back of the bell and give me a rough idea the distance to the highest point of the fingers at the aft of the clutch diaphragm? (not the three-fingered type pressure plate although that might help, too).
Am in early process of setting up a hydraulic throwout bearing.
Am not to be persuaded to go OEM fork setup.
Thanks much,

Huff

It most certainly is not recommended : it is a recipe for disaster given that the slightest hydraulic leak means an engine out job

Hi as said in other posts concentric slave cylinders are very unreliable, only 2 days ago i fitted a new clutch and csc in a customers vauxhall zafira. Yesterday the dreaded fone call clutch has gone to floor recovery truck out gearbox out csc replaced 4hrs wasted carnt imagine fitting one to my etype.I would not sleep at night waiting for it to fail they are total rubbish no matter what company manufactures them

Searching the JL forum there are a number of E's that have implemented, successfully and am hoping that one of them has taken that measurement.

"I installed a Quarter Master hydraulic release set up in my ots with a medatronics 5 speed 10 years ago. I used one in my race car for at least 5 years before that. Very simple devices - they use an o ring to seal it and have been bulletproof. Only problem is they are not adjustable without removal from the car, and that’s a problem."

The depth of the "sandwich" is critical for success. I am determined to do this even though there is a bit of pioneering in the wings for this particular brand HRB and incorporating the Broadsport box.

Thanks for all the input,

Huff
