Hi there! I pulled the E-type project into the garage yesterday. The next couple of weeks I will have a lot to do in order to make the garage usable again - 5 motorcycles were having a reasonably ok time until the new friend moved in with the engine in a box on the side... Either way, I am new to the Jaguar world, despite having spent a lot of time the past couple of years looking for XJS' and trying to figure out what to build. I can't let stuff remain the way it was once produced, it's a decease... Hence it made sense to purchase a project E-type, missing the right engine, the gearbox, working brakes, seats, electrics etc. A sound car, some rust, but on a level that can be handled. My youngest son gave me three years to have it fixed as he would like a ride in it from his high school graduation
Today, having bought a large box of rust penetration oil, I made a less fun finding. My intention was to run it fixed underneath, but keeping the patina-paint on top for some time. In front of the windshield I found a small chip in the paint. It gave me the feeling of bare metal underneath... Strange. Picking a little bit more with a knife and the paint just cracked away. No primer at all. Hm. Too much beer a Monday morning 1969? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
I have plenty more questions but will ask in due time.
