#1 Series 2 brake question

Post by skodajag » Sun Oct 10, 2021 12:46 pm

After a period of being off the road, the brakes on my series 2 needed attention, mainly because the servo system seemed no longer to be working. I overhauled both the servo and the master cylinder. The servo now works, and the brakes are good, although there seems to be a slight delay in the operation of the servo. And there’s a particular symptom that might suggest something to someone out there: when doing the usual test of the servo - foot lightly on brake and then start the car - the brake pedal moves, but (according to my info) in the wrong direction, that’s to say the pedal moves up rather than down. Any thoughts?

The servo test needs to be performed after the servo has been exhausted by pressing the pedal enough times until it is hard ( usually 6 to 8 times ) with, of course, the engine off. Then press the pedal and start the engine, and as you say, you should feel some give in the pedal . If you perform the test without exhausting the servo, then the results may be unpredictable
