#1 Wiring loom question, around wiper and washer

Post by No Quarter » Thu Aug 17, 2023 7:14 am

I've started to put in the wiring looms, and after examining what the seller had rolled up and had in a box for 12 years, I decided to reuse it. Most is in the right place, but I do have some questions around the wiring to wiper motor and washer, etc.

Picture 1:
The wiring diagram for the wiper motor is based on colors on the wires coming from the motor that are almost gone by now. Using my strongest glasses, I've come to the sequence in the picture:
RLG goes to the separate wire
NLG goes to center
The 4 in the corners, clockwise from top right: ULG, WLG, YLG, G
Can anyone check their functioning wiper motors and see if my wiring is wrong please?

And is that connector supposed to be in the engine room or the cabin, which side of the wall?

Picture 2:
Wiring looks to be black and black+something. Does anybody know what it's for?

Picture 3:
Should wiring for washer go through that hole? If not, what is that hole for?

Thanks

Hi Mikael,

1. Very hard to determine without colours on the wires. Yo may have to remove the wiper body to determine which wire comes from where.

2. They are for the rev counter generator on the back of the LH cam tower.

3. That hole is for the choke cable.

Oh and that connector in pic 1. goes in the engine bay. It is held against the bulkhead with a small bracket. Most of the regulars stock the bracket if yours is missing.

Thanks Simon, answered most of my questions.

The one about the wiring in the connector, taking the motor apart and looking is one way. But if anybody else has the same wiper motor and can check that the wires coming to the connector from the wiring loom is attached in same sequence, I'll take a chance on attaching battery (in a few months :-))

Just a note on that bracket. It seems not all cars had that bracket, just had the connector block cable tied to the wiper motor. My car had no holes in the bulkhead for the screws. Don't know which models that applies to.

Hi Mikael,
Picture No.2 shows the wire from the Rev Counter, that connect to the Rec Counter Generator located at the rear of the left hand cylinder head cam cover. (when looking from the front of the car).

hope that helps.

Ken :salute:
