#1 OBL versus September 1962 Front Wing Profile

Post by MikeE » Tue Jun 30, 2026 5:01 pm

My September 62 FHC has some historic accident repairs and on stripping the bonnet I’ve found that the RH wing looks to be original but had lots of filler, covering some badly repaired dents, in the section above the wheel arch. The LH wing is in good shape, no significant damage or filler but is not the original wing, it’s actually an OBL wing.

So I’ve gently panel beaten the dents out of the RH wing and then offered up the profile gauges I took from the OBL wing and can see that from the middle of the wheel arch forward the top portion of the wing has far less curvature.

Hence my question, would a September 62 front wing have the same profile as an OBL wing? I assume so and mines suffered a loss of upper curvature from a historic repair, but before I set to wheel some more curvature into the original wing I just wanted to check!

Picture shows the previously damaged area on the original RH wing.
