#1 Deeper sills on the 2+2?

Post by skiday » Wed Sep 28, 2011 10:41 pm

One day, hopefully not too soon and certainly after I have enjoyed my E after it?s long auto/manual conversion and under-bonnet restoration, I will turn my attention to the rather poor shut lines and the sills. When Jaguar designed the 2+2 they gave it a higher roofline giving the much welcome interior space, but rather spoiled it with a top heavy look. Inspired by Eagle?s speedster I am thinking that a deeper sill might not be too hard to create, and restore the visual balance to the design. Here is a mock up, what do you think?

It makes the door look terribly shallow . The one thing which would improves the looks of the S1 2+2 immeasurably would be to use the S2 windscreen.I don't know whether there are any great snags in doing this, but it does not appear to be particularly difficult

Since you're a dab hand at Photoshop, I'd visualise the car sans chrome strips under the windows. This accentuates the depth of the windows which are already higher, as you know. Admittedly it does so more on dark coloured cars and yours is OSB, but still. I think removing the chrome trims will give the effect of shallower side glass and therefore redress the glasshouse/bodywork balance in the way you desire.

Lowering car on its suspension by half an inch using adjustable spring seat dampers, or maybe lowering the car entirely with 16 wheels/lower profile tyres, would also take some of the height out of the look. You'd have to be careful with ground clearance obviously, especially if you did both, but as with the chrome trims these two options are also easily reversible and will therefore preserve the value of the car. The sunroof adds height, literally and visually, but if you got one in a close matching lbue it might help. Can't see exactly but it looks black?

The cheapest would be to learn to love the car as it is - it looks gorgeous. The public has no idea it is different from the FHC. Having come to work in my 2+2 this morning and driven it last night I have already scored one 'Nice car mister' from a group of pedestrians, plus a wave from someone coming the other way. Not bad for 12 hours, most of which were bed time. It's a beautiful car, enjoy the room and practicality that other E-types can only dream of.

That's clever, although not sure it has the desired effect.

i have always wondered what an E type would look like with two tone paint.
Try a dark/light blue, i think that would help achieve the look your after!
can you do that on Photoshop?

David : I agree the two tone is unfortunate, but I like the Kamm tailed 2+2 ( although not its rear lights)

David - I don't know where you found the image of the Kamm tailed 2+2, but I would imagine it would have Malcolm Sayer turning in his grave  Just goes to show IMO the original is quite often the best!
