Series 3 e type alternater regulator

hi all, i have no ignition light and the bulb is fine the light comes on if i connect its wires direct to the plus on the battery so i assume its the regulator by the battery. The one on my car has 2 connectors and is made by ingrams in Australia. This cant be the correct one. the amp meter on the dashboard shows 14+volts so the alternator is charging. I have ordered a new regulator and it has 3 connectors can any one tell me how to connect it. I seem to have all the correct wires (diagram) present but i cant work out which goes where. The new regulator has a plus a minus and a field connecter (whats a field one). Please can anyone tell me where the wires go.. thank you in antisipation... johnmack..

Hi,

I assume you have the Correct Alternator? They are sometimes replaced with alternatives, the correct one looks like this:



A photo of a correctly connected Regulator looks like this:



As you can see there is actually a moulded connector which will prevent incorrect connection, but if you have a different regulator, this is probably missing.
