Wipers refuse to quit

I was caught in the rain recently (I try to avoid rain like the plague) and when I switched my wipers on, they ran as expected, but then refused to turn off when the switch was switched off. With the switch left in the off position, they finally shut off about two minutes later and parked in the normal park position. This happened once before several months ago, but on other occasions, they worked as expected, turning off immediately when the switch was turned to the off position. The switches are the normal Series 1 toggle type. Any ideas where I should look for the fault?

Mark : it is probably a slight maladjustment of the parking switch. This is controlled by a knurled knob which protrudes through the front face of the bulkhead just near the rear of the lh camshaft bank and slightly below the heater water valve .If it happens again try twisting it just very slightly in either direction to see if the wipers then park

Thanks, Christopher. I'll see if I can make them malfunction and then try the adjustment. I hope that it's something that simple! I was thinking that it was probably the switch itself.

I've tried moving the parking adjustment knob as far as it will go counter clockwise (about 90 deg.) and then back about a full turn clockwise, but the wipers still keep going merrily about their business until they decide they've had enough and return to the park position. It doesn't seem to matter whether I put them in the slow or fast run position (I don't see a whole lot of difference in speed between the two), they still quit when they get good and ready, usually about 10-15 sec. after being shut off. I may just live with the condition since I seldom have a need to use the wipers, only when I get caught unexpectedly in the rain. A new switch runs $110 from Xk's Unlimited.

I have the same problem with my car and it is as Christopher said.I think the knurled switch is quite sensitive. I just live with it and wait until I hit a bump or something to turn them off.
