Hi, after a bit of advice before I start 'fiddling'. I have to recon the gearbox on my S11 OTS and happen to have a Mk11 all synchro + OD box handy. will this fit without body mods to my S11?
Many thanks
Jon
Can I fit an overdrive to a S11 OTS?

No chance whatsoever I'm afraid . The only cars to which an OD box can be fitted are 6 cylinder 2+2s, where the longer wheelbase will accommodate the extra length. The 12 cylinder cars exceed the torque capacity of the OD, hence it is no good on s3s either

Overdrive wired to work only on top gear is fine on a Series 3 E-type. There are quite a few running around quite happily.
The ex-Laycock people at Overdrive Services in Rotherham tried to disuade me from even bothering to get the competition upgrade OD for V12 use. If a vendor tells you several times that spending extra money with them is pointless, they have serious credibility in my eyes. If they are ex-employees of the OEM company then they have even more. I got the competition upgrade regardless, but I'm stupid like that :-)
But no chance in a SWB car and if it's a Mk2 unit there's no chance in any E-type, period. The overall unit is far too long and the OD itself is not the 'Compact Type A' version and therefore too bulky for the tunnel.

Thanks for the advice, anyone want a Mk11 all sychro od box??!!.
Back to the OTS, now off the road, a head stud exited skywards followed by coolant on Tuesday. Looks like it was fractured when torqued up as the corrosion is quite bad and only a 'fresh' bit of stud exists in the centre. Lets hope I get it apart and back together before autumn!!
Great Forum!!
