#1 Stolen car GPS tracker

Post by APersoons » Tue Mar 26, 2013 10:54 am

I just stumbled upon this:

If my car would ever get stolen, I think I'd give myself a medal for having bought one of these :o .
You can get a six month battery pack with it too apparently.

The problem with GPS is that it is useless if the car is covered over or hidden in a building.

I have been looking at a number of systems recently and found this:

ChipnTrack which uses GPS and GSM.

In addition to the usual GPS element

The GSM part uses mobile phone towers to triangulate the unit even if it is under cover. I fully accept that it is not going to be as accurate as GPS *but* if you car was stolen, covered over and driven 100 miles away - The GSM should still pinpoint it within 100 yards or so. Thats good enough to advise the police and at least you would know where in the country it was.

It also has shock sensors and can alert you if the car goes over 30kph (i.e. has been put on a trailor or towed away).

It might be worth a look...
