#1 I found a metric part on my E-Type engine !

Post by Durango2k » Sun Feb 23, 2014 9:58 pm

... I really tried it, used any near- that-size spanner but none did fit.

Finally I gave up, and went to my old metric toolbox, took a 14 + 15 mm sized open wrench, and went back to the block.

YES !

It?s a 15 mm ... fit !

And which item on the 1966 S1 engine block is it ?

It?s the water tap !

That?s a metric item- the FIRST I found IIRC on this car to be metric !

Not metric. Probably BSP, Whitworth or some such

Okay, but then a 15 mm fits PERFECTLY... :-)

(It?s always good to have a lot of standards around so that you can choose one !)

5/16 Whitworth is 15mm IIRC. 7/16 AF is 1/4 Whit I think. Haven't used many Whit spanners since my pre 65 Brit motorbike days.

There are metric threads on your engine and elsewhere, but the tap is not one of them.
