Hi guy's i found this link on ebay better be fast it is over in 24 hours. I am not the seller or do i know him. I just found this one by accident browsing ebay.

Oh dear, why does this type of advertisement make me so suspicious ?

Too cheap and apparently without reserve ? In Puerto Rico ? Allegedly in a storeroom for 30 years, and yet everything on it looks brand new ( not just the repainted paintwork ) ? No registration plate shown ? No details of the car or seller ? Photographs which give no idea of the location and could be anywhere ?

Seems to be fairly genuine. has sold other cars on ebay and rating is fairly decent. Would still be sceptical however i recently sold a 70k ferrari on ebay no quibbles no issues buyer didnt even come and look at the car just hit the buy it now and got it transported to him..

the puerto rico part would concern me as this is going to be shipped over and any damage could be claimed to have happened during transport.

Still looks nice though

I would be sceptical too. Biggest thing he has sold on e-bay is valued at 1.000 USD, most of it lies in 100 USD region. So why does he suddenly have a S1 to sell. And why in such a hurry, only 14hrs left and ticking....

No message on the bid counter that "reserve not met" ... so either the reserve was sub 48K USD ... or he didn't set one. Both of which alone are sketchy....

Licence plate certainly looks like the period 70's plate from Puerto Rico. So assuming it's the real deal, he maybe has a 48 hour window to "resell" the car, or else it gets passed onto someone else locally. So he's desperate for someone to cough up the matching funds.

Most amazing thing is that there folks bidding on the item. Roll the dice, may end up with a 100K car for half price.

You're not transferring money as you bid you know! Buying a car on ebay is no different to buying one from the Sunday Times, Classic and Sportscar magazine or at a classic car auction.

You do exactly the same thing....go look at the car and the documentation before handing the money over, and pick up the car at the same time. If the car isn't as described then you don't have to complete the transaction ...simple.

The fact that it's in South America make the transaction difficult if your in the UK, The fact that it's in San Paulo would mean that I certainly wouldn't go near it! But that wouldn't be any different if it were advertised in any other media.

But as you bid you are committing to coughing up the dough if you win, albeit provided product met it's description. At least one of regular eBay E-type sellers who I have been in contact with a few times has a 10% deposit with a certain number of days as part of his terms. That being the case you are then laying out without having set eyes on the car.

Fair enough, the Puerto Rican doesn't have any terms & conditions....

I lived for 5 years in puerto rico, it's a terrible climate for cars.
I bought a brand new car when I arrived, and sold a rusty wreck when I left.
during 5 years salty winds and air moisture did their job.
Stored for over 30 years ... no wonder why the car is freshly painted.

I don't agree with some of you. I buy a lot of stuff thru ebay. I live up North in Canada it is very handy. I never had any issues what so ever. I bought my current e-type and 2003 xkr unseen and it is what was described. Yes it is always nerve wrecking to buy a car that you have not seen. But Here in canada or the US the distances are so big you have to role the dice. It is not like Europe you can drive almost anywhere in 6 hours!
It is not that there are a lot of E-type or xkr available in Canada! Even the in the US i think there are less E-type or XKR available then in the UK. So ebay is for me personally a great toll to find a specific or rare car that is not available any where near where i live.

Any way it is not my listing or car or do i know the guy. But be honest buying a 62 OTS for that money! even wrecks are offered more then that in the UK!

If i had the $$$ i would jump on it ship it to the UK and sell it for 100K POUNDS!

Not with cars. There is not actually anything to force you to buy a car having won the auction. I had precisely this experience 2 years ago. Was unable to come to an agreement with a (dodgy) seller after the auction. Seller tells Ebay transaction not completed, costs him nothing.

And its back on ebay! must be scam or something no chance that car has been sold. Must be his buddy bidding on it to jack up the price or something. Something smells fishy here.

There ya go ! That would be theoretically how one may end up conned via the Puerto Rico deal. Which others seemd to think was solid, or at least consider buying cars via eBay as being solid.
