#1 Wire Short Open Circuit Tracer Detector Fault Finder Tool

Post by Heuer » Wed Feb 04, 2015 11:27 am

Saw this tool and wondered if anyone had tried it out? Basically you connect a signal generator into a circuit and then use a long nosed detector to trace the wire. If there is a break in the wire the signal will fade out at that point so you know where to look. Works even in loomed wires:

Might mean I can finally get the interior light of the OTS working again. Power to the wire, nothing at the bulkhead light socket :?

David,
Yes the cable tracer is ideal for such case.
You have more cost effective similar products available such as this one:

Thanks Ralph. That one is indeed half the price but lacks the flexible probe the other one has to follow wiring down to unreachable parts of the loom.

Doubt if you can find the not working interior light of the OTS. Or is there some light hidden inthe boot?

No the light is exposed, it is just the wiring loom that runs from there, through the car under the trim, up the footwell and into the centre dash which is not.

You have more cost effective similar products available such as this one
or use the old sewing needle trick.

now if they invented a tool that could mend broken wires without having to break into the cable loom bundle, that would be handy.

Buy a dozen, re-brand as 'LUCAS Smoke Detector' and sell for double.
