#1 Change of engine block - what now?

Post by ltmark » Sun Apr 26, 2015 8:03 pm

Hello. I've just begun a series II 69' coupe restoration. After a blown ring in about 1980 that chewed up the cylinder and head, I was offered a complete engine from a 73' XJ6 from a friend who was doing a v8 conversion. I put in that block, complete with heads, cams etc. In the meantime, 4 kids and life took over until my recent retirement and NOW I begin, with earnest.

I have all attachments from the original engine and some from the new. I have reviewed the specs and diagrams from both long blocks. Other than the water pump, I don't see anything from the original engine that won't be compatible.

When ordering parts for the engine or the engine bay, is there anything that anyone can think of that would have to be 73' specific?

Thanks for any comments.

Hi Mark, I have a series 2 (71) and my engine was timexed at .40 thou over. I elected to use a short block 4.2 from a 73 xjs which was standard. The oil line for the cams was "t"d in on the oil filter, but I used my own head and the rest too. I live in Canada, if you want more info contact me through Ian at this address. best regards, Brian @ Mytype
