S1 Centre console dashboard / gauges

Hi,

I'm going to replace a S2 dashboard that sits in a 1.5 FHC with a S1 centre console type (black). Quick questions:

1) I assume I can still make use of the S2 gauges (clock excepted of course) with the S1 console, or not?
2) I'm advised I can also make use of a centre console (and gauges) coming from a MK2 as they are identical - is this correct?
3) Apart from autojumbles; anyone aware of a Jag parts specialist who hordes original parts who may have what I'm looking for? (I prefer not to go via the SNG Barrett route for recreation parts)

You can use the gauges although you will have a voltmeter rather than ammeter, which is actually a good thing. Sets of switches come up regularly on eBay and the only area you may get into difficulty is with the wiring of the wiper motor which is different to the one used on the S1 cars. The MK II centre dash has a different hinge arrangement to the E-Type so you will need to do some modifications.

The best place for s/h stuff is the Stoneleigh Jaguar Spares day. You just missed the October one, next one will be in March.

Thanks for the fast response, appreciated. Good to know about the gauges. I had thought about finding original S1 gauges for authenticity sake. But who am I kidding? It's clearly a 1.5 series with the revised heater and choke switches, albeit with closed headlights (presumably converted by a previous owner). I find the S1 middle console switches more robust/reliable and nicer looking as well.

Good to know about the MK2 console. I'll keep my eye out for a S1 console then - maybe an early alu type - just for the fun!

FYI.

I checked with SNG Barrett expecting them to still be able to supply new middle dashboard consoles but they no longer supply them - although the product number still exists. I guess this means I have no other choice but to source old console originals - which was my 1st choice anyway. (I didn't check the status for the supply of the radio and ashtray console positioned below the middle dashboard console.)
