I am about to spray my Carmen Red 4.2 and am wondering about the correct shade of CR. In my view many Carmen cars have been painted over the years in a colour that is in my opinion too orange. Occasionally I have seen a car that appears correct, but have never managed to find out whether it is me going colour blind ( i don't think so as I have a pretty good memory for colour if nothing else) , or whether the colour has been lost over the years. The car that Eagle lent to James May and was at the London Classic Show appears correct to my eye, but interestingly is described as painted in Eagles own formulation. I wonder whether they have recognised that Carmen today, is incorrect? When I stripped the car I noticed quite a bit of original paint which confirmed my suspicions, in that it was darker and sharper than the Carmen of today. Anyway, would be interested in anyones opinion and ideas. Of course the other thing that has messed up all colours is the constant changes in formulation dictated to by European legislation on toxic materials etc.

Paint codes are here: viewtopic.php?t=951 Notionally, if you quote the paint code it should be the same as original whilst remembering synthetic enamel is no longer available. Carmen Red is shown as ICI: PPG/Nexa 3097 or Glasso GIP 21948. Order samples of each and see what they look like

Hi Andrew,
I too was concerned about painting mine in it's original colour - carmen red. So concerned that I looked at just about every other red Jaguar colour available (incl F-Type) before finally deciding on CR (after 5 years of deliberating). I then got Hutsons to spray swatches with a light version, standard version & dark version. The only one that looked right was the standard one. Yes, it looks orange in some light, pink in others and strong red in others. But once it's on the car you stop thinking about it.
I'll repeat the words Andy Rayner said to me - JFDI :D

JFDI, ha! yes quite. I will get some spray outs and see what they look like. But there is a huge variation in Carmen Red , but I guess no way of really finding out the correct hue unless I had have kept some of the original paint.
