#1 Drive gear backlash.

Post by mikebryan » Thu Oct 20, 2016 4:51 pm

The backlash etched on the drive gear of my 1968 OTS says B/L 0 07. I guess that refers to inches not mm. I am slightly confused by the way it is written, does it mean 0.07 inches or 0.007 inches. Thanks for anyones help.

Cheers

Mike.

0.007 inch would be what I would expect to see. 0.070" would be one heck of a lot of backlash. As far as I know, although the manuals often mention metric and inch values, the markings and design dimensions were always Inch units.

I would work to 0.007 and check the contact pattern with engineers blue (Touchierblau, or Raddle in German). At the end of the day, the contact pattern tells you if the mesh is correct.
