FACTORY FIT - Series 2
#1 FACTORY FIT - Series 2
One of the problems we have when restoring our cars (or replacing a component) is understanding exactly how the factory fitted them. We are adding 'stickies' for each model Series which will contain detailed photographs from the area of a car that the photographer believes to be untouched from when it was originally built. Over time, we hope to build a comprehensive resource for restorers to reference. If you have a photograph you would like to add, please send them via PM to any of the moderators (this will allow us to avoid any duplicates etc). Below is the link to the JCNA judging guides (these can be printed off and are a useful reference when trying to work out what colour to paint a component for example).

I'm just stripping a 1970 S2 FHC down to the bare shell ready for restoration. This car has never been apart and I will post detailed photographs in due course. A few things have surprised me regarding the construction:
1. No washers used under the front frame nuts and bolts.
2. Shakeproof washers were used just about everywhere on the body fittings.
3. The amount of sound deadening used was incredible! I need to revisit my car now!
Meanwhile, if anyone is restoring a S2 and wants a photo of a particular area, let me know.

Popped in to see Paul Brown the other day, just as they were removing this IRS from a very early S2. According to Paul it's on original discs?
On the third picture it looks as though the shocks have been painted and/or changed at some point. Red springs seem unusual too.

Discs are original type. Back end has been worked on in the past as evidenced by the butchered area on the lhs in the first photo. Shocks look red but spring could have red overspray as on the lhs alu hub.

Bit like mine. A 69 fhc.
I was able to keep the original finish as the condition was ok. In fact, I lacquered the diff cover. What a show off I am.
This is how it came off before cleaning.

Hi guys first post here.
Here in town we have an exceptionally low mileage and original SII chassis 1R8391. Featured is the LH side underdash where we can clearly see they grabbed some red grab on seals to finish the Upper Steering Column Mounting Bracket C17684.
Original fit isn't always the status quo.

This unrestored S2 is currently for sale and retains almost all its original features. If any S2 enthusiast would like to grab the photos before they disappear and post them via IMGUR it would be most appreciated: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1969- ... 2018-07-28
There are almost 200 photos but we only need a small selection that show interesting features that would help with a faithful restoration. Examples would be the HA12 coil (as fitted to the very earliest cars in 1961) and the rubber plugs in the wheel well along with Aeramic wiper blades along with many others.
If anyone is up to the task double click on the photos, right mouse click and save to your computer. Then upload them in bulk to IMGUR, click on 'Generate image links, select all, copy the links and paste into this thread.

"This 1969 Jaguar XKE Series II roadster was reportedly parked in a Dallas garage by its original owner with 25,688 miles in early 1973, and was recently recovered by the selling dealer after 45 years of storage. Finished in British Racing Green with a Fawn soft top over Beige leather upholstery, the car shows 25k miles and reportedly displays a high level of originality down to the factory tires, with its as-discovered condition documented before a thorough detailing. The numbers-matching 4.2L inline-six is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and does not turn freely, with the seller noting that it will need a comprehensive rebuild. This XKE is offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and a clean Texas title.
Original-style items include trim and brightwork, Lucas headlamps and lenses, spot welds, glass etchings, Aeramic wiper blades, Girling hoses, gold cadmium plating, fasteners and other hardware. Pictures detailing these items and more are supplied in the gallery along with those depicting the condition of the soft top, plastic rear window, and vinyl cover.
All five correct wire wheels reportedly wear their original Dunlop SP Sport tires, and their inner tubes hold air according to the seller. Each corner is detailed in the gallery below. The luggage compartment contains a full-sized spare, jack in a vinyl sleeve, Headfast lead hammer, brass spanner, and associated components.
The beige leather seat upholstery is said to remain flexible and is accented by matching carpets and a black dash with late-model rocker switches. Two service stickers from Snuffy Smith Motor Company in Dallas date from 1970 and 1972 at 22,971 miles, and coincide with the December 1972 Texas state inspection sticker adhered to the windshield. The seller notes that factory markings can be seen on the rear suspension, oil pan and other components, as well as cosmoline on the front suspension and wheels. Additional undercarriage pictures are shown in the gallery."

Many thanks for doing this. However I have had to edit the post as you have used the wrong link and it is overloading the server meaning it is taking a very long time to display the images. For future reference always use the BBCode links instead:
Each link will be preceded by [img.] and end with [/img.]. They are now smaller images but users can click on them individually to enlarge them.
