#1 Model E Type mania !!

Post by 44DHR » Thu Mar 05, 2015 10:36 pm

Ok - so we fret about detail, but we are lucky to have the real cars. Looking at previous posts in our forum pages - is the diff the right shade of red to be correct for example. I think we need to realise there are some amazing talented people out there who obviously share our passion about our cars.

There was a thread about the guys who love and modify model E types such as the Revell model kits : viewtopic.php?t=4166&highlight=revell
and since then although I have my collection of models as a side issue to my full size cars and bikes, I seem to have struck a cord with these guys as I keep being sent quite a few links to some of these amazing modelling sites and I am amazed at these guys attention to detail to modify existing plastic kits to improve the detail.

For those who are fluent in French - or not, but can appreciate the photos, check this site out, http://racing.conceptforum.net/t1808-ja ... nogram-1-8
but as a taster and there is an amazing 25 pages of build up - including how to build your own wire wheels and mill a 1/8 scale alloy steering wheel - for example I show below the lengths these guys go to get the details correct. I clicked on "Ne plus afficher" to remove the drop box which appears on the screen.

BUT - you have to keep clicking through the 25 pages as the car is built !! All the plumbing and wiring is in and check out the front uprights - and we worried about our track rod end angles !!

Remember that this is 1/8 scale !!!

This is completely outstanding! I want one!!

Maybe this is a newer and cheaper and all-weather version of the larger E-type hobby :D

Na, it's a left hand drive. Although you have to admire the engineering

And I thought I was content with my model.... That's put me to shame! I could only dream of doing a model like that, the detail is astonishing.

Here's the best I could offer ;)

The kit still has bits missing, I never did manage to find a few parts but never mind. I apologise for diverging here, but I also did this with my many Airfix kits several years ago:

And there we were worrying about an alternative engine frame supplier. Amazing work.

I wonder if an airfix spitifire engine could be shoehorned into a model e type....ok the handling would be rubbish but what a drag car :o

Simon, your models are very good and we all have many different talents.

This is their passion and dedication and as I said before, we have the real cars, but this guy must have access to the a real E type to get the detail just so right. He even makes his own U clamps for the exhaust pipes he has made and fabricated up his own rear opening side window frames in metal section.

I make no apologies for adding some more photos I have extracted from the French website as I am conscious that in years to come the link to that site may not be accessible, so here's more details showing the torsion bar suspension he has made and all the associated plumbing and wiring. He's even got the bottom section of the picture frame correct.

I just love the detail on the steering rack and dampers he has made. In the first photo the model is sitting on the original Monogram plastic wire wheels, but he is not content with these so puts them in a lathe and machines out all the "spokes" and cross drills the hubs and rims to lace up his own metal wire wheels.

Brake pipes. T-pieces. Throttle linkage. Fan motor. Nuts on the lower balljoints. Brake discs. Threaded exhaust U-clamps. Multi-piece starter motor and alternator. This is gobsmacking stuff!

At 1 meter away (or 12cm in the model world) you're hard pressed to tell the difference between model and real mycoy.
