Re: E Type engine number.

All Series 2s are '7R's but they switched from using the -8/-9 suffixes at the end of 1970. From Philip Porter's book: From: Engine No.14269 Following engine number, letters replace figures to denote compression ratio. Henceforth: H - denotes High Compression S - denotes Standard Compression L - de...

If you search car no's near to yours it'll show typical engine no's.
Many thanks for that.

Steve
Many thanks Steve. Have just tried that and VIN shows up istantly confirming the car. Sadly neither current or original engine numbers show up. Appreciated, thanks again.

E Type engine number.

Hiya, I'm about to put a deposit down on a car, it's a 1970 S2 FHC. Car came from the US to UK some years ago and has matching body and chassis number son car, on import papers, Heritage certicate, and V5 well just the chassis number obviously on V5. However engine has been swapped at some point whi...

Re: Basic questions when buying an E Type. Question 1

Hi, I’ve got a 3.8 with moss box and no real issues with it - redline MTL helps. As mentioned earlier, you just need to pause slightly between shifts. Btw, all heads for the E’s run with unleaded by design as they are alloy with hardened seats. Many thanks for the further input, Appreciated. Yes I ...

Re: Basic questions when buying an E Type. Question 1

Thanks Mark, I'm not overly fussed truth be honest about the box as long as it is functional. As classic car owners we all know and love the quirkiness of these things. I was more pondering about desirability of the Moss box over an upgrade, and if it'd make a sale harder or easier come resale time ...

Re: Basic questions when buying an E Type. Question 1

Many thanks for the prompt answer, appreciate that very much. The chap actually mentioned he takes off in second too. Not that fussed about it being awkward, it won't matter for the mileage I'd do in it. Just wondered whether it was good for residuals really and resale. On viewing the car I am now c...

Basic questions when buying an E Type. Question 1

Hiya chaps, although well versed in most classics I'll put my hands up and admit whole heartedly I'm struggling when it comes to E Types, in all fairness and in my defence which new prospective buyer wouldn't? Especially when you see prices raging from 20k through to 300k plus. Anyhow I'm not that d...

Re: Speeding

We've owned a property in Andalucia for 20 years and sold it this year, completing in August. For the last few years we've driven across due to my hatred of airports, sailing to St Malo, driving up Atlantic coast then swinging South across the width of Spain, through Madrid,Granada and on to our hou...

Re: New member in Lancashire

I will do at some point Steve, and thanks for that, appreciate the idea.
It'd also be nice to have a quick chat with any owners who live in the Lancs area (I'm in Upholland area) to maybe pick up a few more tips on the subject and to maybe cast an opinion should a car come up.

Cheers

Re: New member in Lancs. Thread revival 4 years on

Apologies for the thread resurrection chaps, Jeez 4 years ago now, where the heck did that go? In a nutshell a quick report on what happened in that time and what I'm after now. After joining the forum I'd lined up a US import LHD V12 in supposedly excellent condition which I fully intended buying, ...

Thank you very much guys, really appreciated. Also many thanks for the pics Malcolm, your car looks superb and I'd be happy to own it. The honest comments on here and the advice I've had from an importer I'm speaking to don't seem to tie in with some prices bandied around on sales sites. The RHD UK ...

I've not been to the Buxton auction for years now, I should get myself over there, especially as I've an Aunt who lives in the town.

Again thank you for the useful info. re. prices etc.

Afternoon chaps, I've a feeling I'll already know a few of you/or your cars from meeting you at shows. In a nutshell, I've been in to my cars for 30+ years now, mainly Caterham,Lotus with the odd TVR/TR4/6 and all the usual others we've all probably played with. In the middle of a big change around ...
