Hiya, I'm about to put a deposit down on a car, it's a 1970 S2 FHC. Car came from the US to UK some years ago and has matching body and chassis number son car, on import papers, Heritage certicate, and V5 well just the chassis number obviously on V5. However engine has been swapped at some point which is not the end of the world to me.
Just wanted to ask and use the vast array and knowledge on here to find out if the replacement engine is suitable and excepted for this car. Number is 7R145xx-H....xx's obviously replacing 2 digits for security.
Many thanks and much appreciated.
E Type engine number.

Many thanks Steve. Have just tried that and VIN shows up istantly confirming the car. Sadly neither current or original engine numbers show up. Appreciated, thanks again.mgcjag wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 11:42 amHave you searched http://www.xkedata.com/ for details on the car numbers...its a good place to start.

If you search car no's near to yours it'll show typical engine no's.

All Series 2s are '7R's but they switched from using the -8/-9 suffixes at the end of 1970. From Philip Porter's book:
From: Engine No.14269
Following engine number, letters replace figures to denote compression ratio. Henceforth:
H - denotes High Compression
S - denotes Standard Compression
L - denotes Low Compression
If yours is 7R145xx-H it looks to be correct for a Series 2, and early 1971 - possibly one of the last units made bearing in mind that production was phased out in favour of the V12 Series 3s around March 1971.

Fantastic info Simon and much appreciated. That's one hurdle climbed for me. There is a lot of history been misplaced so trying to do a Sherlock Holmes on it until it turns up. Very helpful that, thank you.Simon P wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 12:26 pmAll Series 2s are '7R's but they switched from using the -8/-9 suffixes at the end of 1970. From Philip Porter's book:

Hi there,
Congrats on the car! The 7R145xx-H engine is from a later Series 2, so it should be suitable and generally accepted for your 1970 FHC. It's common for engines to be swapped in these cars. Ensure the replacement engine is in good condition and matches your expectations for performance and authenticity.
Best regards.
