#1 Headlining sides remove

Post by 00series » Fri Jun 30, 2017 10:27 am

Hi, I'm currently at the trimmers helping to remove and refit a new Aldridge trimming headlining kit ( trimmer has not fitted one before before) - it's a full kit as the sides are grubby and sagging not just the main center price. We are trying to remove the headlining sides from my S2 2+2. I have removed the main headlining but I'm now having trouble removing the side pieces of the headlining that sit above the can't rails. Does anyone know how how to remove these please? Thanks, Bert

Thanks - I removed the door rubbers. Unscrewed and can't rails I now have good access to the side areas of the headlining. Regarding the cant rails, is there a trick to removing the thin chrome edge trim as while the cant rails are out it would be good to retrim them? Thanks Bert

Hi Bert....done this recently on my S2 2+2.....there is no trick....on the reverse side there are a couple of metal retainers rivited holding it in place....and if you look carfully on the rear side of the chrome its been crimped on....so needs very carefull prising off......the problem is getting it back on........you need to widen the opening......along its entire length......i put a screwdriver in it vertically and pulled it along the slot to widen..but take care....also i recovered over the existing vinyl for fear of ripping up the foam core by pulling the old vinyl off.....so that the extra layer does not interfear with getting the chrome back on i trimmed off the old vinyl from the whole length of the lip front and back that the chrome fits on.....re chrimped with pliers but tape up the jaws so they dont damage the chrome.......its not an easy job but well doable.....all the best.. Merci Yves, that's really helpful.
Btw, I checked that these pics are still on your restoration thread, so not hijacked by Photofucket
Your pics are most useful for inside trimming.
