I used the 4mm (M4) IIRC and tapped the hole accordingly but you need ones that are the same or larger than the stock self tapping screws. The thumb screws of the same size will fit into the tapped thread or you can go larger and use a tap to create a new thread.

Put a rubber washer on each thumb screw shaft to make them shake proof and they work very well. You can delete the two central screws. Opening the dash is a doddle now - no fumbling in the dark with a screwdriver.

To be fair it was George Knuckey from the US who came up with the idea and he sent me a pair. I had great difficulty getting a set over here at the time but there are lots on Amazon now.

Can I get lucky by using the same knurl as the top of the center dash?

Worth a try although you may need tap the existing hole to suit, otherwise no reason why not.

Thursday/Friday The suspension will be adjusted with coil over adjustables.
Then we button up the center console by weeks end .
Then a VERY LONG test drive and a complete wrap up.
I think the thumbscrew tip was the best tip over the last 2 months!
Stay tuned for the complete wrap up.

Joey, hey when you do your next test drive can you compare the speedo reading to real GPS speed, will be interesting to see the result as mine needed the speedo re calibrated with the five speed. All the best.

Will do!
My speedo was changed because I thought I was going with a 288 rear
So mine is 10 mph off to slow

So is the Cut crank seal, modern 5 speed, Alum Rad and stainless peened over rear seals worth it?
Not one drop in the floor my friends
And not a stink of anything burning
Just wonderful!

Modern seals for the yokes and front diff yoke
They are stainless or aluminum now
They don’t leak around the yokes when spinning or sitting still

6am on Thursday
Last job before the console parts come in to button up the job
The new replacement factory springs and shock do not sit right
9,000 miles later I’m still an inch too high
Going with adjustable coil overs to slam it down
Rob Beeres front tortion bars and we move on!

Hi Joey,
Not to go too far off the track but how did you determine where to set your springs?

I've got a similar setup on my car. I've been playing around with the settings and they still "feel" a bit soft so more tweaking. Is there some specific measurement you're looking for?

This photo shows them before I moved the nuts up.

Thanks
Dave

Joey,

Who makes the rear dampers you used? I like the understated black finish.

Sorry I was so late guys
We started 5 am at Bobs shop
To complete the whole 5 speed conversion, will only enhance the ride some more
It’s all done in 5 hours!
Gaz adjustable with coil overs
Front Gaz with adjustable damper settings
Bob Beeres heavy duty upgrade torsion bars NOT racing

The rears…….measure from the shock bottom stud to the top of the adjustable collar
Do all 4 even!

You want to be around 22/23/24 wheel well
Height to floor
Set all shock even on the knob till hard!
Then turn back till you like or a bounce and a half on rebound
To hard you car will push in turns with the 5 speed!
Pm your cell phones if you need help
It really complements the 5 speed!

To follow up the
NEW. GAZ are Black not the old Electric Blue!
Much better Imho visually
Front wheel wells center lip to floor 16 1/4!
Rear wheel arch around 22ish inches to floor
It’s dropping fast in the rear as it settles in
When in 5th gear around 55/60 in hard turns there is so much torque it kicks the rear out , when the shocks are in ultra hard/ 911 Porsche mode
Back off a turn at a time YOU need rebound cushion
Again a game changer over the stock!

Montauk 1989 use the lower stud and tape measure to to of collar edge
I think it was around 14 inches
Make all 4 even then crank up or down from there
