Are there differences between series 1 3.8 and 4.2 cylinder heads?

Nothing significant in this case means no difference at all AFAIK

Pumpkin paint colour for early 3.8

R engine number prefix for 3.8 vs 7-7E prefix for 4.2

Foundry lugs and casting/part numbers on underside

Inlet side has two large plugs on 3.8 for 3-piece manifold. This does cross the significance threshold IMO as a 4.2 would need machining to fit 3.8 screwed plugs.

Possible valley core plug difference (earliest Allen key alloy plugs switching to hex head steel)

ça suffit

Many thanks for all the replies, my 1965 4.2 has had a 3.8 head fitted to it in the past, just wanted to understand the implications.

Donc, les gars “aucune différence” ne disent pas beaucoup. C’est curieusement calme de leur côté!

And yes, I’m sure the Brits can read French too.

Cheers to all

"Rien de significatif" (qui semble approprié ici) n'équivaut pas tout à fait à "aucune différence"
