Chrome wheel treatment
#1 Chrome wheel treatment
Hi
I have got around to thoroughly cleaning and polishing my wheels off the car for the first time (which are chrome wires 10 years old) There was some surface corrosion in with the brake dust which came away completely with a little gentle fine wire-wooling and polishing with 'Autosol'. There remains only very slight surface pitting, mostly behind the spokes on the rim, which is not really visible except very close up. The question is what, if anything, can I treat the surface with to preserve it? Should I spray some kind of wax on the inner rim as the label suggests? Unless there is a better suggestion I will polish with 'Mer' polish.
Can anyone recommend brake dust shield inner discs?

Rimwax is superb at protecting from brake dust but you will need two coats initially and then top up every few months. Smells like bubblegum, looks like bubblegum! http://tinyurl.com/ykdtna7

I have used it now. It's very nice to use. I hope it will give long lasting protection. AS you say, looks like bubble gum and smells like bubble gum, but strangely doesn't taste like bubble gum or make very big bubbles! (only kidding) Two of my wheels so far are now sparkling like new!!! :D

Never used it and don't know how good it is. I use body wax on my wheels (as you all know, vital to keep that brake dust cleaned off) as I figure it must add a protective layer. What else would RimWax add?Heuer wrote:Rimwax is superb at protecting from brake dust but you will need two coats initially and then top up every few months. Never seen a comparative test but for ?15 it has to be worth a try if only for the smell! Everyone who uses it swears by the stuff although I must confess my experience is only of buying it, putting it on the shelf and promising myself I WILL use it next time I clean the car.

I now have a new regime, Once a year (at least) with the RimWax, but every time I go for a decent run I use Dayton Wire Wheel Cleaner; Part No: DWWC from SNG Barret, Price: ?11.70 (including VAT) give it a tickle with their wire wheel cleaning brush, then power wash with my new NIlfisk 110 psi power washer (?55 inc postage), then round the block for a spin dry. Boy do they sparkle now!

Lots of it on sale on eBay. Just find a reseller who will ship to you at cost price.

I have heard that when anyone has an issue with their Daytons, the first thing they ask is ifyou have used their cleaner. If not, it is difficult to get them to replace the wheel. Might be worth buying a tub of their product now!skiday wrote:I now have a new regime, Once a year (at least) with the RimWax, but every time I go for a decent run I use Dayton Wire Wheel Cleaner; Part No: DWWC from SNG Barret, Price: ?11.70 (including VAT) give it a tickle with their wire wheel cleaning brush, then power wash with my new NIlfisk 110 psi power washer (?55 inc postage), then round the block for a spin dry.
