I have finally mounted the dashboard and am trying to fit the nuts but cannot find any that fit!..

Unless the cadmium process has thickened the studs, the studs are not #10 UNF as I thought.
They are not 2BA either, but they do seem to have 32TPI.

I have misplaced the set of nuts I had originally somewhere..

Can anyone give me a hint??..

You can run a 5mm tap through some holes as the threads are the same pitch - slightly smaller core - and use 5mm
If desperate of course.

I am in no way desperate!! I think I am in 6th year of restoration, so I do have patience..

I am just wondering what thread it is BA or #10 or something else like BSF??..

They were definitely 10-32 UNF on my dash panels. Do you have a die you can run down the studs?

I'm pretty sure my dash panels were zinc plated and passivated although they were new for my left to right hand drive conversion.

So was your dash panel original or a repro for the conversion?..

I do have a die I can use, I am just slightly reluctant to use it on a thread I am not too sure about...

Can't be 10-32, that's equal to 5-16. I found a 4 or 5mm fit perfectly on my 3.8.

10-32 thread is approx 4.8 mm diameter

They are indeed 10-32 UNF. I've just checked my original LHD dash panels as well, just to be sure. I also noticed that the originals did not have a colour passivated layer so they may well be cadmium coated.

10-32 is not the same as 5/16! That nomenclature is used for sizes below 1/4". The 32 indicates 32 tpi. The major diameter is 0.190".

It definitely isn't a metric thread. Why would it be metric on a British built car of the 1960's?

Thanks for that info. In some metric domain countries like SA UNF threads are difficult to come by without costly & time consuming import orders. For those small sizes metric threads are often very close.

Many thanks Stu for confirming the thread size. Probably due to the size of the dash, much more cadmium accumulated then normally.

The dashes were (at least mine was) cad plated.
