Which way does the crank distance piece go round . I. E. With the O ring innermost or outermost . The part after the chain cog .

I don't remember ever seeing an O ring on the distance piece ?

I presume you are fitting the new distance piece as part of the installation of the later type front teflon seal??

The o-ring in the distance piece needs to be outermost with the chamfer end installed first pointing rearwards towards the seal. You do NOT fit the oil slinger as this new distance piece is slightly longer to accommodate the lack of the slinger. Apparently the new seal needs oil to operate correctly.

Maybe I am misunderstanding the point, but I think Simon is talking about a non standard front seal installation with a chamfered and o-ringed distance piece. Are we all talking about the same things here ? I cannot see how a chamfered distance piece would have the chamfer pointing backwards , and nor can I see how it would be beneficial to omit the oil slinger . AFAIK the order of assembly is oil pump/distributor drive gear , chain sprocket , oil slinger , distance piece, front seal surrounding the distance piece, cone . Is what Bryan has referred to as an O ring in fact the front seal ?

I shall be glad to be corrected if I am wrong , but the only pictures I have of distance pieces indicate a plain sleeve, unchamfered , with no recesses for O rings , and the oil slinger at its rear
