#1 Head bolt torque Series 1 4.2 1966

Post by baldyz1 » Fri Jul 05, 2024 11:40 am

After some help again please.

I need to re-torque my head bolts as the engine has been started and warmed up but not used for several years and I am soon to finish the build. There was evidence of a very small bit of overboarding of water when it was first run and it has not been retorqued since then.

I have found the advice to be around 54 lbft for the main bolts numbered 1-14 (see pic) but what should the torque be for the bolts numbered 15 to 20 in the diagram shown?

many thanks
Chris

I don’t believe that any torque figure has been published for these. My head was rebuilt by CMES who supplied a copy of the torque setting and tightening sequence and method. No mention of the figures for these smaller nuts.

I was just told to do them "reasonably tight and check now and then"
That's what I did, all seems fine.

I will check what they are now and if they match and just tweak by a couple of lb/ft.

Many thanks
