#1 Senior Moment Choke Cable

Having just finished the 4.2 Restoration and in the process of shaking it down the wretched choke cable has slipped in its clamp at the dash board end! Having just got the car back from the trimmers I am not best pleased to have to contemplate removing the dash top to get at it. But my question is, because I cannot recall exactly, if I do remove the dash top is that going to effect me access to rectify the issue? I did think about access from underneath but the under dash panels are so expertly fitted I feel reluctant to mess with those if the dash top will suffice. Of course I may have an issue feeding the de mister pipes back into their places without the under dash panels being removed but I shall tackle that if the problem presents itself. And I thought all was done and complete!

My feeling is that the choke cable clamp screw is best accessed from below so I would unscrew the boards under the dash
Removing the steering wheel will help access

Thanks Robbie. I just cannot quite recall how much the lower return on the dash panel obscures the working room. Perhaps someone here has a photo with the dash top off ?

The return is not too deep
Hereโ€™s some photos
I still think itโ€™s much easier from below!๐Ÿ˜Š

thanks again Robbie. Its certainly easier to get at the inner clamp with the top off. Its not great working in an inch width upside down at my age!!!!

Ok, well by way of a sign off the job is done, but its a pain in the posterior. Removing the dash under panel was easy, I was confused as it looked like it was a one piece going right the way over to the Hazard switch which itself was a complete pain to fit. Anyway, one screw and the under panel came away. This gave visual access to the problem but its was extremely difficult to feed the inner cable back into the trunnion when up in side the dash. Removing the RPM counter would not have improved that access as the choke cable is the other side of the bracket that supports the lever mechanism . I removed the upper trunnion and the outer cable lock and then fitted the trunnion onto the cable and replaced it in the lever. If you are about 5 ft 2 inch and a contorsionist who can focus on items about 6 inches above your head in the dark then it will be easy. For me it was a challenge but certainly do able without removing the dash top. Thanks for the all the advice as always. Andrew
