#1 Running temperature?

Post by Zei220 » Sat Jul 16, 2016 4:07 pm

Just wondering what the correct running temperature should be, I'm running 140F which i think is low? Checked the knowledge base but cant find an answer in there.

Thanks.

Generally anywhere around the M A L of NORMAL I find. My brow only starts to furrow if the needle edges past the L.

Mine sits towards the right hand edge of the LH white section of the gauge and only goes into the normal if stuck in traffic before the fans switch on, then kept there until on the way again and goes back to as before. Don't know how many degress C or F that is.

mine sits on the "O" of normal as a maximum. Never goes higher. Sometimes runs cooler according to conditions.

I guess the thing with the S2 gauge, as it doesn't purport to tell you actual temperature, is just to get to know what's normal for your car and be alert to it exceeding that.

Have to say I'm impressed with the S2's cooling. If you have any amount of forward motion that big mouth sucks in the air and keeps things in check: it's really only ever when stationary in traffic that the fans get called upon to provide a boost.

Mine's exactly the same as this. The fans kick in when the needle hits the mid point. It's probably reading a bit low but I fitted a new sender so I guess it's OK. But as you say, once you're used to what's "normal" then you'll know if it's hot or cold.

Yup, that's where mine sits too and the engine has only just been fully rebuilt.

It's all about the temp sensor (highly variable) and the guage acuracy as to how it balances out, the important thing is when & at what temp the fans kick in !
Make sure the coolant is fully topped up otherwise the otter switch / fans will not kick in to cool it.
