#1 Revs Generator reconditioner

Post by MarkS » Tue Jul 31, 2018 8:16 pm

Can anyone recommend a rev-generator reconditioner in the West Midlands (UK) area, or Stoke...? Maybe someone that does classic car alternator rewinds or water pump reconditioning..

The point of failure is the tach generator magnet which lose magnetism over time. Reproduction tach gens tend to fail prematurely so if you can find a way to remagnetise the originals it would be the best way forward. You could try replacing the poles with meomydium ones.

The point of failure on mine is that it won't turn very easily, thus chewing up the drive dog
I know there is a company that reconditions these for a reasonable price. -just trying to find them..

"You could try replacing the poles with meomydium ones." If it was a generator for anything other than a cat, you might try neodymium magnets.

Mark S : if you mean by not turning easily that it is lumpy to turn round, that is exactly as it should be. It is an AC generator and the lumps you feel are at the point of maximum magnetic interaction between the poles and the armature . With your fingers a good wristy twist will not produce more than about two-thirds of a revolution once your fingers let go

Thanks Chris, I know what it's supposed to feel like -when its free to turn. Mine cannot be turned at all by finger tips. So that's why I'm asking for the firm (in Birmingham, I think, and used by David Manners) that reconditions them. Anyone got any suggestions on that at all..??

Why not simply FEDEX to the best authorized Smiths shop in your part of the world. Why does it have to be local ? Just curious. Best of luck !
