My 69 e type roadster has a crinkle finish soft top frame which looks to be original. The previous owner has owned the car since 1973 has told me this is how it was sold to him. Attached is a barn find series 2 currently on ebay. It also has a black (crinkle?) finish. The only portion of mine painted in grey is under one of the bows which is covered with material. My soft top is original . Any other series 2's out there with the black finish frame?
Regards,
Greg

My soft top frame is grayish blue.
A quick look on google for e-type hood frames and E-type soft top frames, most pictures show a blue or gray frame. I could only find one other picture of a black frame.

My 69 S2 has the blue/grey frame believed original (certainly unchanged since purchase in 1977). Mine is 55th RHD, so not super early.

According to the JCNA concours judging notes the frame should be painted grey - no variations noted. The S3 also had grey frames.

Mine was blue-greyish, btw I dont understand why they had selected this colour, changed to satin black which is for me much more appealing (no concours concerns for me).
