I noticed that the tyres on my 3.8 S1 are 11 years old and although there is no sign of wear or cracks I think it may be best to replace them but what with, a V grade or H grade and what make without spending a fortune. Any ideas would be most welcome.
I also am looking for decals for the engine bay but have drawn a blank.

Choice in 185 section is down to Vredestein rated at HR, Pirelli or Michelin XVS both VR rated. Blockley have just released a 185 tyre which is mid way in price between the Vreds and the Michelin. Give Longstone Tyres a call and speak to Dougal who can advise what will work best for you. There are quite a few threads and opinions on tyres here so worth doing a search.
My personal view is modern profile tyres such as the Pirelli P4000 do not work well on the E-Type if only because they loose you 1" of ride height never mind the increase in steering weight.
There were very few decals, if any, in the 3.8 engine bay but you can easily get reproductions from SNG Barratt, Hutson's or some of the other vendors.

Roy,
Unfortunately there is not a low cost option with the correct size V rated tyres,i called at Dougals Lonstone Tyres 2 weeks ago and had a set of Pirelli Cinturato,s fitted ---absolutely transformed the car, they are brilliant. He is a knowledgeable guy on tyres and not just a fitting station, the link below will give you an idea

Just for info i wanted to have the Vredstein classic HR rated but my insurance company would not commit themselves in writing, this being my question and their answer
Quote " Could you confirm which speed rating tyre is insurance acceptable for my E-Type 4.2 as suppliers dont know ! .H rated 130mph or V rated 149mph"
Reply---Quote------"Also in regards to the enquiry you had regarding tyre's, the insurance company have said they will cover any tyre's that are suitable and roadworthy."
Bit of a rediculous situation really because the Vredsteins HR are load rated 91 the same as the Vs so will do exactly the same job upto 130mph then you wont have a licence or be insured at 130mph anyway never mind 149mph, anyway rant over--if you pay for the best they will reward you when you get in the car and drive it,
Steve
