Leaking fuel pipe

The fuel feed line that feeds the carbs; there is a compression joint between the plastic fuel pipe and metal pipes. The compression joint is leaking fuel, and the part is not available. Anyone had any bright ideas on stopping leaking fuel joints?
Any help much appreciated.

You might try PTFE tape but I would not be too optimistic. Sure others will have a better solution.

Thanks Julian. Thinking of trying liberal amounts of blue hylomar?

I would doubt it would work as hylomar uses a petroleum based solvent. Hylomar will probably dissolve

Other drastic option would be to chop the compression fitting from the line to the floats and then use a jubilee clip to secure the plastic pipe directly to the metal pipe. Obviously a one way trip though....

Curil is, from memory, a smeary paste which is fuel resistant and seals. And it does not harden.

Like Hylomar but withstands fuel.

There are variants nowadays like Curil T or K2, see yourself- I still have some of the stuff from the 80s, and I still sometimes use it.

It's probably a deformed olive, but either way there are plenty of classic specialists or just hardware places that sell Imperial fittings.

You're right about the olive I think Peter, I've a place in mind I'll take the unit too.

I'm assuming it's this part that's leaking? Excuse the grainy pic.




It's probably just the olive which as Peter says, you should be able to get from a hydraulics supplier or engineering supplies company. A lot of refrigeration and air conditioning systems use imperial fittings too.
It will be either 5/16" or more likely 3/8".

I used Permatex Aviation sealer as well which is probably similar to the products Paul and Carsten are recommending.

This type of "liquid" tread sealant is exclusively used in the oil/offshore industry in preference to PTFE tape, for sealing instrument air lines.

Because, experience showed that small pieces of PTFE tape can detach and go down the air lines to block small oriffie in instruments - aka carb jets.

A win! Took the whole assembly off, moved olive around a bit, cleaned everything up, clamped lower nut in vice, wound down top nut a few times, put it all back and dry as anything. Longish run, still dead dry. Just keep fingers crossed now! Correct about the olive thanks Peter, moving it around a bit seemed to sort it.
